Valentine's Day Cheer
As Valentine's Day approaches, I have heard and read a lot of hilarious stories that made me laugh and smile. I'd like to share them with you.
My boyfriend and I met online and we’d been dating for over a year. I introduced Hans to my uncle, who was fascinated by the fact that we met over the Internet. He asked Hans what kind of line he had used to pick me up. Ever the geek, Hans naively replied, “I just used a regular 56K modem.”
One morning Emma woke up with a start. Her husband Jim asked what was the matter, she told him, "I just had a dream that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine's day. What do you think it means?"
"You'll know tonight," Jim said.
That evening, Jim home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, Emma opened it - only to find a book entitled "The meaning of dreams"
Mike walked into a post office just before Valentine's day, he couldn't help noticing a middle-aged, balding man standing in a corner sticking "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. Then the man got out a bottle of Channel perfume from his pocket and started spraying scent over the envelopes.
By now Mike's curiosity had got the better of him, and so I asked the man why he was sending all those cards. The man replied, "I'm sending out 500 Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'"
"But why?" asked Mike. "I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replied.

How many calories does laughing burn?
Now that the holidays are over, I have been asked, "How much do I have to laugh to burn off the meals that I ate?" My response to that question was, "Don't ever stop laughing!" To work off the amount of calories from turkey/ham dinners with all the trimmings, cakes, pies and other various treats, one would have to laugh 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. :)
Researchers at Vanderbilt University found adults burn an average of 1.3 calories per minute while laughing with others. That’s about the same number of calories that you would burn while taking notes in a lecture or while standing and talking on the phone.
Laughter burns calories, relieves emotional stress and it is a workout for the muscles of the diaphragm, abdomen, back and shoulders. It definitely has its benefits, but it is not a substitute for weight loss programs or daily exercise. With that being said, keep hope and laughter alive!!
Wishing you all a Safe and Happy 2014!

Who makes your life important and fills it with sunshine?
Children are a blessing. They bring joy to sad days, sunshine to rainy days, and they have a canny way of making you laugh at the faces they make or the darndest things that they say. The sweet innocence of a child has the ability to turn all of your frowns upside down.
As a I have taken on the role of "gammy" to my first grandchild, Xane Alexander, each day is a blessing. I wake up thinking about his precious little smiling face, and as soon as I get home from work, his face instantly lights up when he sets his eyes on me. It's a wonderful feeling to know that this little fellow gets excited to see his "gammy" OR it could be the sweet treats that he is accustomed to me bringing home. :) Chocolate cake is his favorite! Xane has made me laugh and smile on many occasions. I always treasure the time that I spend with my "Scoota Bear."

Using humor and play to overcome challenges and enhance your life
The ability to laugh, play, and have fun with others not only makes life more enjoyable but also helps you solve problems, connect with others, and be more creative. People who incorporate humor and play into their daily lives find that it renews them and all of their relationships.
Life brings challenges that can either get the best of you or become playthings for your imagination. When you “become the problem” and take yourself too seriously, it can be hard to think outside the box and find new solutions. But when you play with the problem, you can often transform it into an opportunity for creative learning.
Flowers always make me smile. They have a way of immediately cheering me up and lifting my spirits. I would like to share this beautiful bouquet with you! Have a wonderful day. :)

TGIF!!! Here's something to help jumpstart your Friday
Joke of the day
Two campers are walking through the woods when a huge brown bear suddenly appears in the clearing about 50 feet in front of them. The bear sees the campers and begins to head toward them. The first guys drops his backpack, digs out a pair of sneakers, and frantically begins to put them on. The second guys says, "What are you doing? Sneakers won’t help you outrun that bear." "I don't need to outrun the bear," the first guy says. "I just need to outrun you."
Have a Safe and Happy Weekend,

What are some of the funniest things that have made you laugh?
Whether it be a statement made by a friend, a joke from your favorite comedian, a movie, playing with a pet, a funny photo or something that your child may have said, because kids absolutely say the darndest things, you still remember those moments and how they made you feel. Laughter is medicinal. It fills your heart and lifts your spirits when reminiscing about the instances in our lives in which we have laughed or had "good times." The "good times" in my life are times that are filled with lots of laughter.
I would like to share a joke that one of my elderly patients told me.
"An elderly husband and wife visit their doctor when they begin forgetting little things. Their doctor tells them that many people find it useful to write themselves little notes.
When they get home, the wife says, "Dear, will you please go to the kitchen and get me a dish of ice cream? And maybe write that down so you won't forget?"
"Nonsense," says the husband, "I can remember a dish of ice cream."
"Well," says the wife, "I'd also like some strawberries and whipped cream on it."
"My memory's not all that bad," says the husband. "No problem -- a dish of ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream. I don't need to write it down."
He goes into the kitchen; his wife hears pots and pans banging around. The husband finally emerges from the kitchen and presents his wife with a plate of bacon and eggs.
She looks at the plate and asks, "Hey, where's the toast I asked for?"
Now, let's keep it rolling. Share some of your funniest jokes or moments in your life that have made you laugh. Pass along the laughter. You know the benefits of laughter, therefore you will be helping to lower the blood pressure, boost the immune system, relieve stress or improve many moods of those reading this blog.
Until next time, take care and have a humorous day!

What does laughing do for the body?
The Effects of Laughter on Your Health:
What's the funniest thing that happened to you this week? What made you laugh hysterically or chuckle quietly? What ever the case, laughter does a body good.
Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
Until next time, have a hearty laughter today!!

Laughter is the best medicine: Humor has great health benefits!
This blog was created to share information about how we can live healthier and happier lives by laughter. Laughter is said to be a powerful antidote for pain, stress and conflict.
Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others and keeps you grounded, focused and alert.
Laughter triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.
As a nurse, I always try to find humor in different situations. For me, laughter is therapeutic. I love to laugh and I try to make my patients laugh and smile even though they might not be in the mood to do so. I know what laughter does for me, therefore, if I can make a few people laugh or smile, my job is halfway done.
Funny jokes, heart-warming/feel-good stories and pictures are welcomed to this blog. Feel free to spread the laughter.
Ingrid
